Would you want James Harden in a team full of youngsters? This was the question asked by Richard Jefferson to LeBron James‘ ex-teammate. The answer is pretty obvious. It’s a big, fat no. Harden does have value as a player, but to have him in a locker full of young boys as a leader. That is a recipe for failure.

One of the reasons for The Beard’s value diminishing is the off-court lifestyle. Partying right before a playoff, right after a terrible game, throwing extravagant parties; the list is long. And the indignation of fans and fellow players, even more. Can’t blame them. Harden parties hard and with no concern for anyone.

Harden’s trade saga is widely discussed everywhere. In a recent podcast of Road Trippin’ by Allie Clifton, Rich and Channing, the trio also takes up the topic. While Channing tried his best to give credit to the 10x NBA All-Star, he ultimately had to give in to Rich. “Hell no”, was his response to Richard.

Rich also provides a very good reason for not being the biggest fan of Harden. If the team that signs Harden comprises vets, it’s okay. They can handle Harden and in case he suddenly develops mood swings, it will not affect the team as much.

But when Harden is put in a leadership position for a young team, they will have to reconsider if it was the right choice. For obvious reasons.

Houston’s head coach clarifies his stand on James Harden

Recently, the Houston Rockets‘ head coach Ime Udoka clarified his position regarding Harden. The Rockets did consider signing Harden, but they took a moment to reconsider. The result was Fred VanVleet, the new point guard. Clutch fans tweeted Udoka’s clarification on the matter, “just a matter of Fred VanVleet being a better fit”. 

Rich echoes the exact sentiment of Udoka. Unless Harden is ready to work on his work-life balance, his player value will be even more limited next season.

For now, the Philadelphia 76ers are focusing on the preseason games. Hopefully, James “The Beard” Harden can put aside his issues with the Philly president and at least put his best foot forward. If not for the team, for himself.
