Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson did not practice on Thursday due to a hamstring injury, an injury that also plagued him to start the 2023 campaign.
And while Watson told reporters that he doesn’t believe this version of the injury is as severe as the one that cost him the first three games of the season, he added he wasn’t sure if he would be recovered in time for Monday night’s matchup against the New York Giants.
“He’s getting the treatment and hopefully it’ll be sooner rather than later,” head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters regarding Watson.
The 24-year-old wideout suffered the injury on a jet sweep during Sunday’s 27-19 upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
He has come on strong of late, with 16 catches for 186 yards and four touchdowns in the past three games. The Packers (6-6) have won all three of those contests, four of their last five and currently hold the final playoff berth in the NFC.

CHRISTIAN WATSON AGAIN ‼️
WHAT A CATCH 🔥
Their hold on a playoff berth is tenuous at best, however, with both the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks also sitting at 6-6. The Packers hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Rams, while the Rams hold the tiebreaker over Seattle.
That makes games against cellar-dwellers like the New York Giants (4-8) vital for the Packers. And it makes Watson’s potential absence all the more impactful, given his emergence as the team’s most dangerous playmaker on the outside.
If he’s unavailable, Jayden Reed (40 catches for 513 yards and five touchdowns), Romeo Doubs (45 catches for 505 yards and seven touchdowns) and Dontayvion Wicks (23 catches for 374 yards and one touchdown) will remain Jordan Love’s top option in the passing game.
Reed was limited at practice on Thursday, making him another player who Love could be without on Sunday. He was able to play against the Chiefs with his nagging chest injury, however, fueling optimism that he’ll be able to go again this week.
