NFL Week 14 picks, schedule, odds, injuries, fantasy tips – ESPN
Panthers storyline to watch: The Eagles have NFL rushing leader Saquon Barkley, who is averaging 124.9 yards per game. The Panthers are allowing a league-worst 160.1 rushing yards per game, including 236 yards last week against Tampa Bay. That’s pretty much all you need to know, aside from the fact that Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is playing well, passing for 263-plus yards in each of the past two games. He has not had an interception in three straight games.
Eagles-Panthers Game Preview: 5 questions and answers with the Week 14 enemy – BGN
3 – The Panthers are allowing the most rushing yards per game in the NFL. Why’s that the case and do you expect Saquon Barkley to be able to take advantage of that weakness? The Panthers injury report this week is headlined by Jadaveon Clowney, D.J. Wonnum, and Josey Jewell, none of whom are guaranteed to play this week. These are three of the starting four linebackers in Ejiro Evero’s largely 3-4 base defense They are also maybe the only three players left in the front seven that most Panthers fans can name. There are other talented or promising players on the roster, to be sure, but the talent level has taken a serious hit due to injuries this season and it was never that high to begin with. The Panthers loaded up on offense to give Young the best evaluation that they could and the defense was left to play with matches in the corner.
5 questions with Bleeding Green Nation – Cat Scratch Reader
The Carolina Panthers are taking on a franchise that has been the picture of consistent success in recent years, despite coaching changes, quarterback woes, and every other issue that plagues the rest of the league. In short, the Philadelphia Eagles are basically what could have been if the Panthers had been in the business of making good decisions since 2015. I asked Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation a couple of questions about how the team has maintained their success in spite of major coaching shifts this year, how they are going to sustain in light of recent injuries on defense, and how their hubris treating the unsustainable workload that Saquon Barkley is currently handling. Spoiler, he thinks everything is going to be fine on that last front and I had the courtesy not to laugh so hard that I had to dry my tears with a Christian McCaffrey jersey. He then returned the favor by suggesting possible ways in which the Panthers could win this week. It’s, uh, it’s not promising stuff for the Panthers. Read on to see his detailed thoughts on all of that and more.
Eagles-Panthers preview: Five things to watch – PhillyVoice
1) Saquon Barkley vs. the Panthers’ woeful run defense. The Panthers have the worst run defense in the NFL, allowing 166.8 rushing yards per game. They are on pace to give up the 12th-most rushing yards in a single season in NFL history. The next-closest team is the Cowboys, who are allowing 147.6, or almost 20 fewer yards per game. As you have seen this season, the Eagles are good at running the ball. They have the No. 1 rushing offense in the NFL, averaging 188.9 rushing yards per game. If they keep up that pace, they’ll have the 11th most rushing yards per game in NFL history. So, you know, that’s a matchup advantage for the Eagles. On a side note, four of the Eagles’ five remaining opponents have bottom-six run defenses. That might be relevant to Barkley’s chances of winning MVP and/or breaking the single-season rushing record.
The Best NFL Bets for Week 14: All Eyes on the NFC – The Ringer
The Panthers’ improvements in the past month have not included better showings against the run. Carolina is dead last in the NFL in rush success rate allowed and has still been among the league’s worst in the past month, despite improvements elsewhere. Bucky Irving had a big game against the Panthers last week, and there’s little to stop Saquon Barkley from doing the same. Philadelphia has had issues with the script and in the first quarter, but this is a good opportunity to back the Eagles in the second half. They have the second-best scoring differential in the NFL after halftime. Verdict: Bet Eagles second half -5.5 (-120).
The challenge of keeping Saquon Barkley fresh at the end of a long season – NBCSP
Twelve games and 246 carries into the season, Saquon Barkley looks just as fast, just as fresh, just as explosive as he did back in Week 1. More, actually. And that’s huge because if the Eagles are going to make a deep run in the playoffs, they need their MVP to be a force 18, 19, 20 or even 21 games into the season. One of the big challenges for the Eagles’ coaches and training staff is keeping Barkley in peak form through a long season, a huge number of touches and countless tackles. So far, so good. “I feel pretty good,” Barkley said after practice Wednesday. “They did a really good job here of listening to the signs, listening to the data, and I’ve been doing a really good job just buying in everything that they wanted me to do. “At this point I feel my body is really good. I feel as fresh as you could probably feel for week 14 or 13, whatever we’re in.”
Analyzing the matchups that could define the NFL in Week 14 – PFF
Bryce Young’s intermediate passing vs. Eagles. There haven’t been many better feel-good stories over the past month than the resurgence of Bryce Young, who has returned from being benched and played like a fringe top-10 quarterback since. However, a major test looms this week against one of the NFL’s best in the Eagles. One department where Young has thrived since his return is on intermediate (10-to-19 yards) passes. His 88.5 intermediate passing grade since Week 10 ranks fourth. In that span, the second-year quarterback has posted a 61.3% adjusted completion percentage, with three big-time throws and zero turnover-worthy plays. The Eagles are stout in almost every department, which explains them slotting fifth in defensive EPA per play. Interestingly enough, intermediate passes haven’t been quite as much of a forte, with Philadelphia ranking 12th in PFF overall grade against those attempts. Safety Reed Blankenship grades as the 13th-best defender (excluding defensive linemen/edge rushers) versus such looks. Will Young be courageous enough to throw into a middle of the field guarded by Zack Baun, and will his receivers find space in the intermediate range? If so, the Panthers could put up a fight against a juggernaut in Lincoln Financial Field. If not, this contest could get lopsided.
NFL teams that can actually win the 2025 Super Bowl, ranked – SB Nation
4. Philadelphia Eagles. Remember a few weeks ago, when Nick Sirianni was on the hot seat and the Philadelphia Eagles seemed destined for a disappointing season? Much has changed since then. Many will point to Saquon Barkley as a reason behind the Eagles’ rise. Philadelphia runs the ball more than anyone in the NFL, with a running play percentage creeping towards 60%. That trend has accelerated in recent weeks, with the Eagles running the football on more than 61% of their plays over their last three games. But what is also critical to their success in recent weeks is the improved play of their defense. Vic Fangio’s unit is third-best in the league when it comes to Expected Points Allowed per Run, and that group showed exactly what they can do against Baltimore last week. Last year Philadelphia crashed down the stretch, eventually out of the playoffs in embarrassing fashion. Right now, they look ready to do something different this postseason.
NFL QB Index, Week 14: Josh Allen rises to No. 1 after Bills wallop 49ers – NFL.com
QB17) Jalen Hurts. The beauty of the Eagles’ current state (and their eight-game winning streak) is that Hurts doesn’t have to play the hero in order to help the Eagles win. They can attack you from a number of different angles, all while Hurts plays within the scheme. Hurts is playing an essential role, consistently executing RPOs in Sunday’s win over Baltimore to keep the Ravens on their heels, and he’s found this knack for leaning on one player on a specific drive to push the Eagles down the field. On one particular possession Sunday, that player was A.J. Brown, who caught three passes of 14 or more yards on the Eagles’ second touchdown drive. That possession followed an earlier up-tempo march that Hurts capped by finding Dallas Goedert underneath for a catch-and-run score. He’s still racking up rushing touchdowns on sneaks from a yard out, and he has to be thanking general manager Howie Roseman for signing Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia’s most valuable player.
Eagles D-lineman Jordan Davis knows his No. 1 job is stopping the run. Doing that ‘is all the satisfaction that I need’ – Inquirer
“I’m a nose guard,” Davis said Thursday. “I’m a true nose guard, and that’s something that you have to go out there and embrace. You’re going to get double-teamed in the run game a lot. You’re not going to have a lot of opportunities to pass rush, but when you do, you’ve got to take advantage of it and know that the guys behind you and the guys beside you are benefiting off of that. And that’s the satisfaction that I need.” Davis contributed to the defensive effort that stopped the Ravens’ rushing offense from scoring a touchdown for just the second time this season. Derrick Henry, who trails only Saquon Barkley with 1,407 rushing yards this season, was limited to just 4.32 yards per carry, tied for his second-lowest clip of the season.
Brawn and Brains: A Q&A with Nakobe Dean – PE.com
Liam Wichser: Going back to your time at Georgia, you were a mechanical engineering major with a 3.55 GPA. What got you into that and how were you able to manage football and a major of that difficulty? Nakobe Dean: “My mother, Neketta Dean, is a veteran; she used to go to the VA (The United States Department of Veterans Affairs) all the time. I remember when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to major in college, I thought back to the time she was taking me to the VA, and I used to see all the people with amputated limbs and everything. So, I initially wanted to be a doctor. I wanted to build and design prosthetics to help those people. I wanted to be a doctor, but I took chemistry in college, didn’t like chemistry, so I just stuck with engineering. I learned all the different types of things you can do in engineering. You can build prosthetics; you can build bridges. You can do all types of things. So that really interested me in being able to maintain it. I’d be lying if I said it was any type of easy in college, it was hard. Looking back on it, I’m still like, Man, ‘how was I able to sustain all that, plus a social life in college?’ I picked things I wanted to do and I did it because I wanted to.”
The Eagles Are Super Bowl Contenders (PST Episode 595) – Philadelphia Sports Table
The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl contenders. It’s that simple. This team has been dominating and with a decisive win last week against the Ravens in their house, the Eagles appear on their way for a true postseason run. “We Can’t Stand They Fans… They Throw Stuff At You” – Jadeveon Clowney on Eagles Fans – Crossing Broad
I didn’t even know where Jadeveon Clowney was playing before this video popped up on my timeline. Apparently he’s in Carolina and he still hates Eagles fans.
Commanders bye week rooting guide – Hogs Haven
Here’s a fact you might find interesting: this week, while the 8-5 Commanders are on their bye, no other team — by winning or losing — can move Washington out of the #7 NFC playoff seeding that they currently occupy. Washington will enter Week 15 still in position for the 7th seed no matter what happens in the 13 NFL games being played this week. Nevertheless, on the off chance that Washington doesn’t go undefeated in December and January, Commanders fans should have interest in the outcomes of several games that involve NFC teams this week.
NFC East update: Cowboys technically still alive in division race – Blogging The Boys
It’s simple; the Cowboys have to go 5-0 and the Eagles 0-5 over the remainder of the regular season. That would leave them tied at 10-7 overall, split the season series, and give Dallas the NFC East with a 5-1 division record versus 3-3 for Philly. It’s the longest of shots, especially with Carolina and the Giants still to come on the Eagles’ schedule. The Cowboys winning five more, not to mention beating Philadelphia in Week 17, is pretty a far-fetched notion as well. But at least it’s still on the table, at least for a few more days. But in the highly-expected event of the Eagles beating the Panthers this Sunday, then Dallas’ only remaining road to the playoffs will be fighting their way back into a wild card spot.
