Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates targeted for UFC 319 in Chicago

The UFC will once again try to have Carlos Prates face off with Geoff Neal, this time on the upcoming pay-per-view event in Chicago on Aug. 16.

Both fighters have agreed to the rebooking at UFC 319, multiple people with knowledge of the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting. Laerte Viana first reported the news.

UFC 319 will take place at the United Center in Chicago. Dricus du Plessis defends his middleweight belt in the main event against Khamzat Chimaev.

Prates (21-7) and Neal (16-6) were originally scheduled to fight in April but “Handz of Steel” was forced off the UFC 314 lineup. Prates was then pushed back to the main event of UFC Kansas City two weeks later, when he lost a decision to Ian Machado Garry.

The loss snapped Prates’ six-year unbeaten streak, which included four knockouts in a row over the likes of Jingliang Li and Neil Magny since joining the UFC a year before.

Neal hasn’t entered the octagon since October 2024, when he beat former champion Rafael dos Anjos to get back on track following defeats to Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Mike Heck and Damon Martin contributed tot his report.
