Sheffield United are desperate to keep Harry Amass at the club until the end of the season, so they’re now engaged in fresh talks with Manchester United.

The 18-year-old was one of several youngsters who made their debut under Ruben Amorim in the second half of the previous campaign. But while many were only handed a few cameos, the left-back was able to earn a genuine run with the first team, making seven appearances and accumulating 375 minutes on the pitch.

However, due to the absence of European football and the early Carabao Cup exit, Amorim and United decided to send Amass away on loan to Wednesday on deadline day.

The teenager’s move to the Championship side was far from smooth, as the club was already struggling to cover their players’ wages at the time. Nevertheless, Man Utd agreed to cover the full-back’s salary entirely to push the move through.

Nevertheless, it has been recently revealed that Amass’ contract with the Owls will expire on January 5, leaving the door open to a possible mid-season move.

But according to Wednesday manager, Henrik Pedersen, the club has every desire to keep the Man Utd youth product at Hillsborough Stadium until the end of the season, and they have held talks with the Premier League on Monday.

“I spoke with Kevin (Beadell, recruitment manager). Today (Monday) we have been in Manchester to have a meeting with them about this situation for the future,” admitted the Danish coach in his interview with The Star.

“I think we should have this back in the next two or three weeks when we speak about the development from Harry and what it could look like after Christmas.”

Should Man Utd consider another destination for Amass?

After filing for administration, Wednesday were slapped with a 12-point deduction, and they have only been able to record one victory in their 15 Championship fixtures, in addition to five draws and nine defeats. Therefore, the Owls are currently rock bottom, with a negative tally of -4.

Hence, with Wednesday almost resigned to relegation, some at Man Utd might be tempted to put an end to the player’s stint at Hillsborough and place him at a more competitive Championship club.

Amass’ stats in the Championship this season

Nevertheless, Amass should come out stronger from this learning experience, as he’s considered one of the best players in the side, with the fans and the technical staff heavily counting on his services, as illustrated by Pedersen’s words above, thus placing a heavy burden on his shoulders.
