UFC Vegas 116 Results: Rafa Garcia defeats Alexander Hernandez (Highlights)

We have you covered for all of tonight’s UFC Vegas 116 results, including the lightweight contest between Rafa Garcia and Alexander Hernandez.

Garcia (18-4 MMA) will enter the bout on a two-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming by way of TKO against Jared Gordon this past September in San Antonio. ‘Gifted’ has gone 4-1 over his past five Octagon appearances overall.

Meanwhile, Alexander Hernandez (18-9 MMA) currently boasts a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming via TKO over Carlos Diego Ferreira this past September. Prior to that triumph, ‘The Great’ had scored a first-round finish against Chase Hooper at UFC 319 (see that here).

Round one of this UFC Vegas 116 lightweight contest begins and Alexander Hernandez lands a low kick to start. Rafa Garcia throws out a 1-2 but both shots miss. Garcia continues to press. He lands a nice counter punch over the top. A heavy low kick now from the man known as ‘Gifted’. Hernandez circles and looks to find a way inside. Garcia goes to the body with a right hook. ‘The Great’ swings and misses with a low kick attempt. A front kick also fails to find the mark. Rafa Garcia with a nice jab. Hernandez answers with a low kick. Rafa does not seem concerned about the power of Alex. He’s pressing relentlessly. A good low kick. Alexander Hernandez answers with a body kick. A nice 1-2 from ‘The Great’. Rafa Garcia lands a straight right and then shoots in and scores a takedown. Hernandez pops right back to his feet and is able to scramble back to range. He swings and misses with a pair of hooks. Rafa Garcia responds with a good jab. He goes to the body with a right. Alexander Hernandez looks to answer, but his 1-2 falls short. He shoots for a takedown, but Rafa easily stuffs the attempt. The horn sounds to end round one.

Round two of this UFC Vegas 116 lightweight matchup begins and Alexander Hernandez has some blood coming out of his nose. He lands a nice inside low kick to kick of the second frame. Rafa Garcia pressuring, but ‘The Great’ keeps him honest with a nice counter. Garcia answers with a good left hand. ‘Gifted’ with a head kick attempt which is block. He continues to pressure Hernandez with relentless aggression. A nice jab from Garcia finds a home. Alexander Hernandez counters with a good straight left. Rafa Garcia leaps into the pocket with a big 1-2. Now a right hand. Two minutes remain in the round. Garcia with another good right. Hernandez continues to stay on his bike, but Garcia is just continuous with his pressure. He lands a left hand. And another. 60 seconds remain. A right hand now from Rafa. And another. A jab from Rafa. Alexander answers with one of his own. Garcia shoots for a takedown, but Alexander Hernandez defends and breaks away. Another good jab from Rafa Garcia to end the round.

The third and final round begins and Rafa Garcia once again comes out fearlessly. Alexander Hernandez’s corner told him between rounds he’s down 2-0 and needs a finish. ‘The Great’ looks to establish his jab. Garcia gets in on a single leg but can’t complete the takedown. Hernandez with a nice right hand, but he doesn’t follow up. Rafa appears to have slowed down a bit. Both men land jabs in the pocket. Alexander Hernandez with a nice body kick. Rafa Garcia shoots in for a takedown. He’s deep on the attempt but somehow ‘The Great’ remains on his feet. Garcia pushes Hernandez against the cage. He drags him to the floor for a second, but Hernandez won’t stay down. A nice right from Rafa. He continues to push forward here in the late stages of the fight. Alexander Hernandez with a nice combination. He needs more of that. Good jabs from both men. Rafa Garcia lands a stiff right. And another. Ten seconds remain. Both men lands hooks. And again. The horn sounds to end the fight.
