Mavericks Trade Rumors: Mark Cuban and Co. to Compete With Suns for Controversial Miles Bridges

Miles Bridges has been one of the more popular trade names this season. With just a week left before the trade deadline, the discussions and meetings are getting more serious. The Phoenix Suns have been the frontrunners for Bridges for quite some time now. But now, there is a new player in town.

The Dallas Mavericks look to be making their moves to acquire the controversial Charlotte wing. With the Mavs taking the lead position for landing the Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins over the last two weeks, it will be quite interesting to see how Bridges would fit into the bill.

Reportedly, league personnel divulged that Phoenix is the most “motivated to land the Michigan State product”. It’s of interest to note that Miles played for the same state basketball program that the Suns’ owner, Mat Ishbia, participated in and won a championship.

Yet, this is the NBA. And it’s the trade deadline before the big finish. Especially considering the dismal season some teams have had. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see shocking moves in the coming days, as these teams try a last-ditch attempt to salvage something from what’s left of the season. There is also that slight blemish on Bridges’ record. Having sat out all of last season and another 10 games this season, Bridges seems ready to change the narrative.

But for now, let’s take a look at how Miles Bridges can fit into the Dallas Mavericks, if the deal goes through.

Miles is having a good season this time around. He is averaging 20.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 45.5% from the field and 35.9% from beyond the arc. An unrestricted free agent this summer, Bridges is an appealing prospect for any team looking for a win-now piece.

Close To “Finish Line”

That is not to say he wouldn’t be a valuable addition to the roster. But his expiring contract brings a certain amount of risk factor to the deal. If Dallas is willing to take the same chance they did with Kyrie Irving, Miles-Mavs could be a fruitful partnership. He would provide an upgrade for the Mavericks on the wing and a solid defensive player.

But it all comes down to what the Hornets are asking for in return. There is a fine line in this deal. If both teams can agree on a realistic agreement, then all’s well in paradise. If not, well, Bridges can look forward to waking up with a “Valley” view.
