More departures on Buffalo’s defense: Bills are releasing two-time Pro-Bowl CB Tre’Davious White, per source.

Buffalo will designate him as a post-June 1 cut, which will save them $10.2 million in salary cap space, with $6.2M in dead money. His contract will remain on Buffalo’s… pic.twitter.com/akMrfC36px

At his peak, White was one of the NFL’s best defensive players, notably finishing fifth in the 2019 Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year race. He led the NFL with six interceptions that year en route to All-Pro honors.

Unfortunately, White has suffered two significant injuries in recent years—a torn ACL that prematurely ended his 2021 campaign, and a torn Achilles that cut 2023 short after four weeks.

Now his Bills career is over after seven years, but his efforts to help turn around a franchise that didn’t make the playoffs for 17 years before his arrival certainly don’t go unnoticed.

White joined the Bills as a first-round choice (No. 27 overall) out of LSU in 2017. That year marked a new era in Buffalo, with general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott coming over from the Carolina Panthers.

Thanks in part to White, who had four interceptions and 69 tackles, the 2017 Bills went 9-7 and snuck into the playoffs on the last day.

The 2018 proved to be a rebuilding year with the team turning the page to Josh Allen at quarterback, but the Bills got rolling again in 2019 with a 10-win season and playoffs once again. This was White’s time to shine, and he helped the Bills earn the NFL’s No. 2 scoring defense.

Per Pro Football Reference, opposing passers only completed 50.0 percent of passes thrown in White’s direction, and they managed just a paltry 43.3 rating.

White made his second Pro Bowl (and made second-team All-Pro) in 2020, when the Bills finished 13-3, won the AFC East and made the AFC Championship Game for the first time in 27 years.

Unfortunately, injuries held White to just 21 games over his final three years in Buffalo, but he’ll certainly be remembered fondly for his excellent performances, which helped engineer a great turnaround in Western New York.

White’s release was part of a larger exodus of Bills on the day, with safety Jordan Poyer, center Mitch Morse, wideout/returner Deonte Harty and defensive back Siran Neal all reportedly set for releases.
