Caitlin Clark’s Fever Fall to 0-5, Disappoint WNBA Fans with Loss to Loyd, Storm

The wait for a first win continues on for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
Indiana lost 85-83 to the Seattle Storm on Thursday at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
Clark sank two free throws and the Fever had an opportunity to score the go-ahead bucket after forcing a turnover with 10.1 seconds on the clock. Clark couldn’t corral the inbound pass, though, and Seattle forced a jump ball. Jordan Horston won it for the Storm, which effectively sealed the outcome.

Clark finished with a team-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds and seven assists.
Storm stars Jewell Loyd and Nneka Ogwumike stepped up in a big way to power an offense that hasn’t been firing early on.
Loyd had a double-double (32 points and 11 rebounds), while Ogwumike dropped in 22 points to pair with her nine boards.
Consistency continues to be elusive for Clark. She had a few moments where she displayed her signature scoring abilities. The No. 1 overall pick shot just 6-of-16 from the floor and 2-of-8 from beyond the arc, though.

Great couple of possessions from Caitlin down the stretch — a savvy foul drawn on a trailing Sami Whitcomb for three free throws, then a rare downhill drive left before she patiently spins and finds a sliver of daylight for a short paint jumper.
Some fan angst is beginning to build, particularly with how Clark is being utilized by head coach Christie Sides.
Mr.CrazyShot @CrazyShotJosh
Caitlin Clark about to 0-5 in career is crazy Indiana Fever is hot trash and she got a target on her back
Chris Douglas @ChrisDouglas515
It was a bold strategy to sit Caitlin Clark in a tie game w/ under five minutes to go.
And then to not call a timeout to get her back in when Seattle went on a run.
Now you put her back in down 7 w/ 3:13 to go.
Bad, bad coaching. https://t.co/CQavMepAVY

I really tried to defend Christie Sides for the first couple games but I’m soooo confused by everything she’s doing😅 Esp the substitutions and Clark at the 2 to start games? Huh?
Dano Mataya @drmataya
Christie Sides is insane for thinking a front court of NaLyssa and KLS is serviceable

The Fever stay on the road and play the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night. From there, they face off with the two-time reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces on Saturday.
If Indiana can’t come out on top against Los Angeles, then it could be looking at an 0-7 start in what many expected to be a season in which the team would challenge for the playoffs.
