Shohei Ohtani has been playing through a hamstring injury in recent games.

Following the Dodgers 3-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds Saturday, manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Ohtani suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s last home stand and that the team is working with him to make sure he doesn’t get worse.

“Our advice to him is just be smart with it,” Roberts said. “I think he was just going to leg out a double and the ball just didn’t get in [to the infield], so he kept running. It is him just managing the hamstring.”

Roberts continued by saying that Ohtani is getting better.

“Today, it was better than yesterday,” Roberts said. “We need him in there. We just didn’t want to push it.”

Ohtani notably did not look at full speed while dashing to a triple in the game against the Reds, which prompted the questions about his health.

Ohtani is hitting .340/.409/.626 with 13 home runs in 2024 for the Dodgers. He is not on the mound this season due to his injured elbow ligament, but he is still making an impact on his team in his first season after signing a 10-year, $700 million contract with the franchise.
