Steve Kerr Responds to Draymond Green’s Criticism on Restricting Jayson Tatum & Tyrese Haliburton’s Minutes in Paris Olympics
Despite moving into the Paris Olympics semis after decimating Brazil in the quarter-finals, Steve Kerr has still got people on his back for his rotation policies. One of the prominent members of that herd was the Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, who called out his own coach for benching Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton publicly. However, it seems like coach Kerr has passed on the baton of explanation for now because the situation is in his favor. Judging the correct time after Team USA’s last victory, Coach Kerr addressed the criticism once and for all.
In an interaction with media vet Rachel Nichols, Kerr got to know about the bold criticism from his player, to which he seemed oblivious as he said, “I haven’t heard from Draymond, so I don’t even know what he said.” It felt like coach Kerr was just playing, though host Rachel made an impression to express Draymond‘s intensity. But Kerr seemed pacified as he finally answered, “It’s okay. Being in this position, you do what you have to do to win.” And Team USA proved it with the clean record on the Olympics matchup chart till now.
Steve Kerr has been hearing the criticism – now even from Draymond Green – but on Open Run, he tells me he feels confident in his choices for Team USA. (He is less confident in my ability to do impressions. 😂) pic.twitter.com/tDRod7nXD5

Did Steve Kerr just throw shade at Draymond Green? React!
“Who you play every game is a little different based on your opponents. We’ve been practicing every single day with this group for a month. We know, how to put our best foot forward, “ coach Kerr addressed all the critics out there, including Draymond Green. It’s clear that Kerr is firm on the fact that it’s him observing the players on the court during practice. He knows it best what would work for the team as a whole, not for an individual. Still, he acknowledged the concern of the critics, adding, “All 12 of these guys are worthy of playing, you know, the entire game, but it’s just not how it works.”
Kerr reiterated and asserted his point, “So we’re gonna keep doin’ what we’re doin’ and you know, hopefully keep winning.” Now that he mentioned the necessity of doing anything to win, it seems another star is around to sit on the sidelines.
After Jayson Tatum and Haliburton, Stephen Curry might be the next bigwig to be benched by Steve Kerr!

Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton sitting on the sidelines in the first game did create controversy for Kerr and Team USA in the first pool game. However, it couldn’t float for long since Tatum and Haliburton were underwhelming throughout the exhibition game. Even in the last game against Brazil, Tatum could only score 5 points after playing for about 20 minutes. On the other hand, Haliburton could only rack up 2 points after 8 minutes of playing time. Adding to it, another big name might be lingering for benching, as Stephen Curry has only scored 22 points in all three of the group games.
In the quarter-finals also, he could not land his sole three-point attempt in the total playing time of 17 minutes, amassing about 7 points. But Kerr seems to be chill about it as he commented, “We are just completely focused on our defense and part of defense is finishing the play with rebounds.” Steve Kerr is focusing on Curry as a whole player since he got 5 rebounds in the game against Puerto Rico and a rebound against Brazil.
“We’ve got lots of guys who have the ability to get rolling (on offense), “ coach Kerr said about the question of probable offensive lackluster. So it seems Stephen Curry does not have to worry about it since Steve Kerr doesn’t seem to be benching him soon. However, if things turn around with just one bad performance, Steve Kerr might have to take tough calls to protect the team in the elimination game.
