The Utah Jazz announced Monday that they have signed rookie Kyle Filipowski after selecting the Duke product in the second round.
Per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Jazz signed Filipowski to a four-year, $12 million contract, which is the largest for a player selected in the second round in the last two years. Marks also noted that Utah used the remaining $3 million in cap space to sign Filipowski.
HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported that the deal is fully guaranteed for the first two years, is non-guaranteed for the third year and has a team option for the fourth year.
Filipowski falling all the way to the 32nd pick was a bit surprising after two solid years at Duke. During his two seasons with the Blue Devils, Filipowski averaged 15.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 1.2 steals per game. Last season, he put up 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
Filipowski had a rough start to Summer League, going scoreless in his first game before putting up just four in his second game. He turned things around in the second half of Summer League action to put up averages of 11 points, six rebounds, 1.9 assists and one steal per game.
The end of Summer League showed that Filipowski has plenty of potential as a player, and he’ll look to prove himself in his rookie year.
