NFL Exec: Cowboys’ Dak Prescott to Have ‘F–k You’ MVP Season amid Contract Rumors

As Dak Prescott heads into a potential contract year, at least one NFL executive is expecting the Dallas Cowboys quarterback to put up an MVP season.
Speaking to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, an executive from an NFC team said Prescott is “going to have his ‘f–k you’ season, shut everybody up and win an MVP.”
Prescott is entering the final season of his current contract with the Dallas Cowboys. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday the two sides are still discussing a long-term deal.

Other than protection for a potential injury, there’s very little incentive for Prescott to sign an extension at this point. He has all of the leverage over the Cowboys with a no-tag clause in his current contract, allowing him to become a true free agent next offseason.
One NFL insider told Mike Fisher of Athlon Sports last month that Prescott could end up getting $70 million per season on his next deal if he exercises “patience” with his contract.
There are currently 11 teams that project to have at least $70 million in cap space next offseason.
It’s not hard to envision a scenario where Prescott wins the MVP award. He finished second to Lamar Jackson last season after throwing for 4,516 yards and an NFL-high 36 touchdowns.
Concerns about Prescott’s MVP credentials could stem from potential regression by the Cowboys after an uninspiring offseason and criticisms about how he has performed against better teams.
Last season, for instance, the Cowboys went 2-4 in six games against playoff teams. Prescott completed 63.5 percent of his attempts for 1,530 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. Five of those touchdowns came in two games against a Philadelphia Eagles defense that ranked 29th in DVOA.
If the Cowboys are going to be a playoff contender in the NFC once again, Prescott will likely have to elevate his game to compensate for some of the talent that has been lost from the roster.
An MVP season from Prescott would only increase the leverage he has to seek whatever type of deal he wants from the Cowboys or any other club that might be looking for a quarterback upgrade next offseason.
