Eagles and Panthers news ahead of Sunday’s game

Here’s some Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers roster news ahead of their Week 14 game at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles placed TE Dallas Goedert on injured reserve.

Goedert to IR due to his knee injury was reported earlier on Saturday. He’ll automatically miss the Eagles’ next four games and thus won’t be eligible to play until Week 18 at the earliest. The team might hold their top tight end out until the playoffs start.

The Eagles signed TE E.J. Jenkins from their practice squad to the roster.

The Eagles had an open roster spot to fill after placing Goedert on IR. With Jenkins out of temporary practice squad elevations, the team decided to sign him the roster.

Jenkins has played 16 offensive snaps and 23 special team snaps this season. He’s yet to log a target. He likely won’t see much action in the passing game as TE3 behind Grant Calcaterra and C.J. Uzomah.

In the event that Jenkins does get involved on offense, he might be able to contribute as a pass-catcher. Jenkins made some impressive grabs in offseason practices and preseason games.

The Eagles temporarily elevated FB Khari Blasingame and S Andre’ Sam from the practice squad.

Blasingame only signed with the Eagles’ practice squad earlier this week. He’s essentially a direct replacement for Ben VanSumeren, who hadn’t played any linebacker snaps anyway prior to suffering a season-ending knee injury. Blasingame will potentially contribute as a lead blocking fullback in addition to helping out on special teams.

Sam, an undrafted rookie free agent signing, is set to play in his first NFL regular season game. The Eagles were in need of more safety depth since starter Reed Blankenship and backup Sydney Brown were both ruled out. Sam could be the fourth safety option behind C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Tristin McCollum, and Avonte Maddox. He also figures to contribute on special teams.

The Panthers downgraded Jadeveon Clowney from questionable to OUT.

This development is a surprise since Panthers head coach Dave Canales said he expected Clowney to play. Then again, Clowney did not participate in practice all week due to a lingering knee injury.

In any case, the Panthers will be without their sack leader in Philly. Not a great development for a pass rush that already ranks tied for second-to-last in sacks per game this season.

Clowney dodging Philly is rich since he was just talking trash about Eagles fans earlier this week. But, hey, at least no one has to worry about Clowney diving into the back of Jalen Hurts’ head like he once did to Carson Wentz.

Wentz dives forward on this play against the Seahawks and takes a helmet-to-helmet shot to the back of the head from Clowney. There’s no call because refs said he didn’t give himself up. #Eagles
