PTO Scraps T100 Las Vegas at the Last Minute, Pros Rerouted to Wollongong One Week Earlier

In a move that underscores a year already riddled with scheduling upheaval, the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has announced the sudden cancellation of the T100 race in Las Vegas – just four months before the event was set to take place. While Age Group athletes will receive full refunds, professional triathletes are being redirected to race in Wollongong, Australia, a week earlier than originally planned.

The decision raises eyebrows not only due to its timing, but also because of the logistical strain it places on athletes. Age Group athletes lose their opportunity to race altogether, while pros must now traverse the globe – from North America to Australia – on short notice. For many, this creates a ripple effect of complications: disrupted race plans, rearranged training camps, and increased travel fatigue.

Las Vegas was initially scheduled to host the race in early May, but the PTO had already pushed the event to late October, citing organizational challenges. Now, the PTO says that unresolved issues with local stakeholders regarding proposed changes to the course have left them with no choice but to pull the plug altogether. The race had been slated for the weekend of October 25–26.

The replacement? T100 Wollongong – now confirmed for October 18 – which brings its own complications. The date clashes directly with the WTCS Finals and falls just one week after the Ironman World Championship in Kona. For any athletes attempting a Kona-Wollongong double, this means 15 to 20 hours of travel between events, depending on the airline – an exhausting proposition even for the world’s fittest.

In a season already marked by instability in the PTO calendar, this latest shake-up leaves athletes and fans alike questioning the long-term planning and coordination behind the T100 series.
