NASCAR Cup race at Atlanta red-flagged due to rain

NASCAR Cup race at Atlanta red-flagged due to rain

Just past the halfway point of Stage 1, NASCAR threw the first caution of the Cup race at Atlanta due to inclement weather in the area. It was very light rain, but showers remain close to the track.

NASCAR chose to throw the yellow flag on Lap 37 and the cars ran a few more laps behind the pace car before NASCAR made the decision to bring the field down pit road on Lap 43.

Joey Logano has led every lap from pole position with teammate Austin Cindric in second. Josh Berry runs third, Brad Keselowski fourth, and William Byron fifth.

The rest of the top ten: Carson Hocevar, Kyle Larson, Ryan Preece, Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney.

Several drivers were complaining about ill-handling race cars including the race leader. “t can always be better,” said Logano when asked by NASCAR on TNT. “We feel like it’s got speed, no doubt about that — just trying to control the race where I can and keep that clean air.”

There have been no incidents on-track and 39 of the 40 starters remain on the lead lap. David Starr will be granted the free pass once the race gets back rolling.

NASCAR instructed drivers to remain in their cars, indicating that the delay will not be long.
