Romaniacs 2025: Jonny Walker and Sam Sunderland to Race Adventure Bikes!

The countdown has begun! Less than a month to go for Red Bull Romaniacs 2025, and this year’s edition brings something completely new to the table.

Between July 22–26, the Carpathian Mountains in Romania will once again host one of the toughest and most iconic hard enduro rallies in the world. But this time, fans will see Jonny Walker and Sam Sunderland taking part in a whole new way — on big Triumph Adventure bikes!

A New Chapter for Walker and Sunderland

Jonny Walker, a two-time Romaniacs winner and one of the sport’s most popular names, has decided to switch it up this year. Instead of racing in the Gold Class, he’ll compete in the Adventure Ultimate category on a Triumph Tiger 900.

“I’ve raced Romaniacs plenty of times,” says Jonny, “so it’s cool to be going back in a completely different way. I’m really excited about the Tiger 900 — it’ll be fun, and the goal is to win the Adventure class!”

Sam Sunderland, known for his Dakar Rally victories and off-road skill, will join Walker as a teammate but will ride in the Adventure Lite category. It’s Sam’s first time at Romaniacs, and he’s ready for the challenge.

“It’s super exciting to take on such an iconic race. I can’t wait to get out to Romania,” says Sam.

A Big Change for Romaniacs

This year, the event introduces new categories for Adventure bikes and electric motorcycles, in addition to the traditional Gold, Silver, Bronze, Iron, and Atom classes.

The Adventure Rallye categories are designed to give big-bike riders a chance to experience the legendary terrain of Romaniacs — with slightly adjusted routes and prologue formats. It’s a big step toward making hard enduro even more inclusive and diverse.

What to Expect This Year?

Romaniacs 2025 is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting editions yet:

  • Over 64 nations represented – the largest in the event’s history

  • A new Game Changer Prolog built in Sibiu’s city center

  • More live broadcasts from the trails, featuring the “Leatt Live” section

  • And a mix of top athletes like Graham Jarvis, Billy Bolt, Mani Lettenbichler, and more

With Walker and Sunderland bringing Adventure bikes into the mix, we’ll see how these machines handle the wild terrain that made Romaniacs famous.
