Not So s1mple: the GOAT Foots the Leaderboard on BC.Game Debut

Most Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports fans knew that Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev’s return to the grind wasn’t going to be all sunshine and roses.

After his surprising move to the BC.Game roster, it was a shock to see the legendary AWPer at the bottom of the scoreboard in his first match with the organization.

At the online Tier 2 event, Exort The Proving Grounds Season 3, BC.Game faced CYBERSHOKE in a thrilling opening Group Stage match on Aug. 10, 2025.

BC.Game’s 2-1 victory came with some question marks regarding s1mple’s uncharacteristically low rating —but is that the whole story? While numbers don’t lie, we did witness undeniable flashes of brilliance.

s1mple Underwhelms on BC.Game Debut

Let’s get one thing clear: BC.Game vs. CYBERSHOKE match was an absolute banger. The best-of-three slugfest had it all, including two maps going into overtime, clutches galore, and a reverse-sweep comeback to finish off proceedings. For reference, check out the precise scores below:

  • Overpass (CYBERSHOKE 16 – BC.Game 13)
  • Mirage (BC.Game 19 – 17 CYBERSHOKE)
  • Ancient (BC.Game 13 – 8 CYBERSHOKE)

With a rating of 1.01 across all three maps, a K/D of 56/54, and an Average Damage per Round (ADR) of 61.9, s1mple wasn’t the lowest-rated player in the entire match.  CYBERSHOKE’s Ilya “FenomeN” Kolodko (0.98) and David “bl1x1” Stepanyants (0.87) at the bottom of the pool.

However, the Ukrainian AWPer did finish the match at the bottom of the scoreboard on the BC.Game side; not what fans were expecting.

s1mple’s worst performance was on Overpass. The map was BC.Game’s pick, but it was CYBERSHOKE who came out on top in overtime, with s1mple’s 0.89 rating at the bottom of the scoreboard. On Mirage, s1mple improved with a middle-of-the-pack rating of 1.13, and on the deciding map, Ancient, mustered a 1.03 rating.

To put the 1.01 rating across three maps into perspective, at the BLAST.tv Austin Major, on loan with FaZe Clan against top-tier competition, s1mple boasted a 1.17 rating across seven maps, cementing himself as a top 10 player at the event.

Flashes of s1mple Brilliance

Despite an unexpectedly low rating, we saw glimpses of the s1mple of old.

In a critical Pistol Round on the 2nd half of Ancient, the third and deciding map, s1mple found the opening kill. He then pulled off an insane move, bodyblocking enemy fire, soaking up bullets, and sacrificing himself to allow his IGL, Nemanja “nexa” Isaković, to defuse the bomb, thereby winning the round.

Coming into his own on Ancient, s1mple scored three kills in the 17th round, with two beautiful AWP shots on the B Site defence.

Both these flashes of brilliance were high-impact, helping to secure a 2-1 victory for BC.Game in a match that could have gone either way.

Now that s1mple has hit the bottom of the scoreboard with BC.Game, there’s nowhere to go but up. We are eagerly anticipating the squad’s next matches at both Exort The Proving Grounds Season 3 and ESL Challenger League Season 50 Europe Cup 1.

How quickly will s1mple power up, and how far could BC.Game climb the world rankings in 2025? Only time will tell.
