UFC Announces Punishment for Aspinall vs. Gane Prelims Fighter After Missing Weight
The UFC 321 event hasn’t even kicked off yet, but surprises are already making headlines. Ahead of Saturday night’s card in Abu Dhabi—headlined by Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane—flyweight Azat Maksum, who was set to face Mitch Raposo in the prelims, missed weight by multiple pounds, drawing swift punishment from the UFC.

The early weigh-ins took place at the host hotel on Yas Island, followed by the ceremonial weigh-ins for fans at Etihad Arena. Both Tom Aspinall (255 lbs) and Ciryl Gane (247.5 lbs) made weight comfortably for their heavyweight title unification bout. However, Maksum came in at 129 lbs—three pounds over the flyweight limit—prompting the UFC to dock 30% of his purse.
He wasn’t alone, though. Jose Delgado, slated to fight Nathaniel Wood in a featherweight bout, also came in heavy at 147 lbs, one pound over the limit. The news was later confirmed online: “Azat Maksum Weighed In At 129 lbs For #UFC321 3 pounds over The Flyweight Limit and Has Been Fined 30 Percent Of His Purse. Jose Delgado Weighed in at 147 lbs 1 Pound Over The Limit,” wrote MMA content creator Kevin.
