Could NL Team Sign Alex Bregman And Keep Rumored Red Sox Trade Target?
A new suitor has reportedly entered the Alex Bregman sweepstakes, and that pursuit could affect a potential Boston Red Sox blockbuster trade.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have emerged as a candidate to sign Bregman. If they strike again after surprisingly landing Corbin Burnes last offseason, they may have more incentive to trade second baseman Ketel Marte.

However, it’s not necessarily a one-or-the-other situation. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal said “a scenario exists” where Arizona signs Bregman and keeps Marte.
Bregman would deliver a significant boost to the Diamondbacks’ lineup months after they traded third baseman Eugenio Suárez. Arizona has missed the playoffs in back-to-back years after winning the National League pennant in 2023.
As the Red Sox attempt to retain Bregman, they also may have their eyes on another All-Star infielder. They’re frequently linked to Marte, who leads all second basemen in fWAR (15.3) over the last three seasons.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand called Boston the “number one team” in on Marte, under contract through 2030 with a 2031 player option. The switch-hitter batted .283/.376/.517 with 28 home runs in 2025.
Marte trade rumors have raised questions about Arizona’s future and payroll budget, so the organization’s reported interest in Bregman represents a sharp pivot. The 31-year-old should command a lucrative long-term deal after batting .273/.360/.462 for Boston last season.

The Diamondbacks could complicate a reunion if they’re serious about Bregman. Losing the two-time World Series champion may make Red Sox fans more eager to see a Marte acquisition with top sluggers Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber off the free-agent board.
