Lane Johnson injury update: NFL insider says “there’s some concern he could miss this game”

It remains unclear if the Eagles will have their starting right tackle against the 49ers.

There’s been a lot of back-and-forth on whether Lane Johnson will play in the Philadelphia Eagles’ Wild Card playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.

We know that Johnson is officially listed as questionable to play after being limited in practice all week.

There seems to be a sense that Johnson is going to try very hard to suit up. But it doesn’t sound like a lock that he’ll be ready to go.

The latest update comes from NFL insider Mike Garafolo, who had the following to say on Saturday afternoon (bold emphasis mine):

“Lane Johnson, listed as questionable, and I know we’ve said all week: ‘There is nothing that’s going to keep Lane Johsnon off the field.’ Well, Ian Rapoport and I have been doing our calls today, and there’s some concern he could miss this game. He was limited in practice all week. He looked good in spurts but that’s a tough injury, it’s a painful injury. I would say that this is a legitimate game-time decision.”

No inside information here but I wonder if the Eagles are wondering if they can try to get by with sitting Lane for one more week. The 49ers have the worst pass rush in the NFL with a league-low 20 sacks. Of course, it’s hard to merely assume you’re going to win a playoff game and being too conservative with Lane could come back to haunt the team.

We’ll see for sure whether Johnson is active or not when Eagles-49ers inactives are announced at 3:00 PM Eastern on Sunday, January 11.
