Saints avoid losing top offensive coach to the Steelers

With the New Orleans Saints’ excellent finish to the 2025 season, the team has momentum heading into the offseason, and although that is great, some of their coaches have drawn interest from other teams. This makes sense given how well some players developed, but the Saints cannot lose these coaches. One of these coordinators was Scott Tolzien, the Saints’ QB coach.

After Mike McCarthy was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers, it seemed he wanted to poach some offensive coaches from the Saints’ staff, and Tolzien was a candidate for the open OC position. In the end, per Jordan Schultz, it seems Tolzien will be staying in New Orleans for at least one more year.

This was some of the best news the Saints are going to get all offseason. Tolzien was a massive part of QB Tyler Shough’s development, and losing him would have been really bad. Yes, Kellen Moore and Doug Nussmier were also instrumental in the development, but having as much consistency as possible going into next season will lead to more improvement from Shough.

Now, the Saints won’t have to worry about finding a new QB coach, but they may want to start doing their homework for next year, because teams will be calling for Tolzien to be their OC.
