CeeDee Lamb feels comfortable speaking out about what he wants to see from the Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb has gotten the question a lot this week. The George Pickens contract situation is on the top of everybody’s minds when it comes to matters concerning the Dallas Cowboys, and given that Lamb is close with Pickens, it makes sense for him to address it.

When it comes to situations like these some players offer a party line. They note that the business of football is what it is and that they trust their front office to take care of what is in the best interest of the team. Lamb has hardly stepped a toe out of line on the Pickens front, but he has not been shy. He wants Pickens back and even said he would be fine if Pickens out-earns him on a hypothetical new deal.

Those who have followed Lamb, whether at Oklahoma or in the six seasons that he has been in Dallas, know that he is hardly boisterous. He is not brash. He is hardly stirring the pot with his Pickens comments, but his advocacy is a further step out than we have seen him take normally (he certainly campaigned for Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott to get compensated when they were dealing with the team).

Lamb made an appearance on Saturday at Super Bowl LX to discuss how he treated an Air Force veteran to a trip to see the game of all games and I asked him when he felt comfortable speaking up about things he wants to see the team do.

Lamb noted that he has always had the availability to advocate in this sense so that particular part of things is nothing new, but he did add that he feels comfortable in his space.

It has been interesting in the time that the Cowboys have developed their approach to contract extensions to see how player advocacy has evolved with that. To start this week Dak Prescott also noted that he would “get involved” if he had to in the Pickens situation. Nobody wants to read too much into any one comment from any player, but they appear to be utilizing their own platforms to state their wants and wishes. It is interesting to see.
