Martin O’Neill has revealed his thoughts following confirmation that the Green Brigade will be allowed back into Celtic Park this afternoon…

The club revealed earlier in the week that the supporter group’s suspension – which had been in place since November – has now been lifted with immediate effect.

Supporters have welcomed the decision, particularly with four key home matches still to be played before the end of the season, including two against the Ibrox club and Hearts.

O’Neill – who had regularly faced questions about the situation throughout his two interim stints in charge – also weighed in on the development.

When asked if the group’s return could provide an added lift for his side, the Celtic manager responded via Celtic’s official YouTube channel: “I think it does. Yeah, of course. It would be great if that’s the case. I think the safety regulations have been sorted. And I think that would give us a boost.”

“Absolutely, because the support is very, very strong. And it’s great. And I would like it if that was the case, just to park things now. And let’s see what the summer brings. Well, I thought the support that we got at Dundee was fantastic, really fantastic.”

“I thought they kept us going during the course of the game. They didn’t seem to be highly critical of us when we conceded the penalty, it could have dropped away. They kept us going. I genuinely thought that.”

“So I think in terms of support, in terms of vocal support, it’s great to see them back again. But again, I think we’ve got to just see how it goes and see what the end of the season brings.”

St Mirren arrive at Celtic Park today in impressive form, having secured back-to-back victories against Falkirk and Aberdeen under new interim boss Craig McLeish.

A victory for the Hoops puts the pressure right on to the Ibrox club who travel to the Falkirk Stadium tomorrow.
