UFC 327 winner Paulo Costa sends warning to light heavyweight division: “Dominant from start to finish”
Paulo Costa has a message for the light heavyweight division following his emphatic UFC 327 victory.
Costa shared the Octagon with Azamat Murzakanov this past Saturday in Miami. “Borrachinha” was making his first 205-pound appearance since 2021. Costa dropped Murzakanov with a head kick in the third round, and he didn’t need any follow-up strikes before the bout was stopped.
Initially, Costa told Joe Rogan that he was unsure if he’d continue fighting at light heavyweight or return to 185 pounds. After having some time to mull things over, it appears Costa plans on staying at 205 pounds.
“Dominant from start to finish,” Costa wrote on X. “Paulo Costa showed power, precision, and composure result: a brutal knockout. Another statement made. The division better be ready.”
During the post-fight press conference, reporter Jose Youngs mentioned that Costa might find himself in title contention soon with newly-minted light heavyweight champion Carlos Ulberg suffering a knee injury just before knocking Jiri Prochazka out inside the Kaseya Center. “Borrachinha” said he’s ready for marquee fights if offered.
“I’ll be here,” Costa said. “If the matchmakers, Dana [White], Hunter [Campbell], and Mick [Maynard] think this can be a nice fight, a good fight, I’m here to do it. I’m looking for big opportunities. Big, exciting fights, big matchups, and I’m here.”
After a rocky stretch of fights that included losses to Israel Adesanya, Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker, and Sean Strickland, “Borrachina” rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Roman Kopylov at UFC 318 back in July 2025. Now that he’s followed it up with a finishing victory over Murzakanov, Costa is hoping to capitalize with a massive fight.
