Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano card takes major hit as former UFC star pulls out with an injury

Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano card takes major hit as former UFC star pulls out with an injury

Most Valuable Promotions will have to replace a fight on the upcoming Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano card just weeks before the mega event.

UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey will make her highly anticipated return to Mixed Martial Arts when she squares off against fellow women’s MMA pioneer Gina Carano on May 16th. Rousey vs. Carano headlines a stacked Most Valuable Promotions card, which will be broadcast live on Netflix.

In addition to Rousey vs. Carano, the card features a fan-friendly bout between Nate Diaz and Mike Perry, along with the return of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Ngannou parted ways with the Professional Fighters League earlier this year after just one fight in the PFL Smartcage.

Rousey vs. Carano marks Jake Paul and Most Valuable Promotions’ first venture into MMA, and could be the first of many events to come of its kind. But just weeks before the event, Paul and his team will get their first taste of what it’s like to have to replace a fight on short notice.

Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano loses ‘Fight of the Night’ candidate

In a recent Instagram post, former UFC star Lorenz Larkin announced his withdrawal from Rousey vs. Carano.

“I’m sorry to all the fans but I had to pull out of the Netflix card due to a knee injury,” Larkin said.

“Will be rehabbing it back to 100% and will be back.”

Larkin was scheduled to clash with former Bellator welterweight titleholder and former The Ultimate Fighter standout Jason Jackson on the Rousey vs. Carano undercard. As of this writing, it’s uncertain whether or not MVP will seek a replacement opponent to fight Jackson on May 16th.

As for what’s next for Larkin, the 39-year-old hasn’t fought since a knockout win over Levan Chokheli in September 2024.
