Darren Till believes he could take out UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland

Former UFC star Darren Till has suggested that at his best, he could defeat new UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland.

Back in the day, Darren Till was considered to be one of the most interesting welterweight prospects in all of mixed martial arts. He absolutely shot up through the ranks at 170 pounds until finally, he received a shot at UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley – which he proceeded to lose via submission.

After a handful of losses towards the end of his run, Till left the promotion. As we know, though, he stayed in close contact with his good friend Khamzat Chimaev. Recently, ahead of UFC 328, Darren made it known that he felt like it was going to be a pretty tough fight for Khamzat. In the end, he lost the belt to Strickland in the main event last Saturday night.

In a recent stream, Till had the following to say about his own chances against Strickland if that fight ever took place.

Till’s view on hypothetical fight against Strickland

“I look at Sean Strickland now, he’s just beat Khamzat,” he said during a live stream on Kick.

“I know for a fact, me 100 percent healthy, I take him out. I know I would.

“Everyone even says it. It’s easy for me to say it, he’s the champion, but I trust in my skill set.”

Given Till’s record in the latter days of his mixed martial arts run, this obviously feels like a pretty crazy thing to say. In reality, he seems to be pretty happy with what he’s doing away from the cage right now, as he aims to emulate Mike Perry by turning his post-UFC career into something arguably more impressive than what he did in the promotion.

Either way, the Liverpudlian isn’t going to get the opportunity to back up his words anytime soon.

What do you believe would happen if prime Darren Till went up against prime Sean Strickland for the UFC middleweight championship? Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below, BJPENN Nation!
