Gina Carano’s coach has provided an update on her progress ahead of her return to mixed martial arts tomorrow night.

As we know, Gina Carano will compete in professional mixed martial arts for the first time since 2009 on Saturday when she squares off against Ronda Rousey. It’s widely considered to be a dream fight for a lot of fans all over the world, even though neither woman has been in their prime, or even competed, for many years now.

Alas, Carano is a household name in her own right, and the same can be said for Rousey. They are pioneers in women’s MMA and Ronda has even come out and said that this is a dream fight for her. Gina, meanwhile, has been away from the game for so long now that nobody really has any idea of what she’s going to look like.

Carano’s coach John Wood recently provided an insight as we get closer and closer to fight night.

Wood praises Carano ahead of return

“I will tell you this: The power and the speed is still there,” Wood told MMA Fighting. “I’ve known Gina for a long time and man, she cracks. The big thing for this fight is how to use that correctly. She’s got the kind of power that she doesn’t even need to throw hard to touch you.

“She’s got power, she hits harder than a lot of the guys that I have. She really does. Kicks like a freaking horse. It’s about using those attributes smartly.”

Given how long she’s been away from the cage, it will certainly be interesting to see how she fares. Regardless, though, the simple fact that she’s getting back in there is enough to draw a lot of eyes to this fight on Saturday.
