First Week Of 2026 Preseason: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions
Happy Friday, and I hope yinz are doing well.
The NFL season now feels like it’s truly underway. The Pittsburgh Steelers have already gone through a couple weeks of training camp, but they finally took an actual NFL field on Thursday night. The Steelers started slow, and things were ugly at times, but at the end of the day, a 28-9 win is hard to complain about.
Pittsburgh’s young quarterbacks, Will Howard and Drew Allar, each looked good with the reps they got. Howard led an excellent two-minute drill to end the first half, and Allar led three touchdown drives of his own once entering the game. Along with Germie Bernard and Kaden Wetjen, the youth looked very good offensively.
That was true for the defense, as well. Although the Steelers have been banged up in the secondary to begin the year, the healthy bodies shined on Thursday. The Steelers kept the Packers out of the end zone all night long, and even two of the three field goals from Green Bay came from nearly 60 yards out.
Pittsburgh takes the field again next Friday night. For now, there’s a victory to savor.
We’re here with you throughout the weekend for whatever news comes our way.
Have a safe and happy weekend.

Recap: Second Weekend Of 2026 Training Camp: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions
One game in the books!
Q1: Who will start at safety alongside DeShon Elliott to begin the year?
Not close. Steelers Depot respondents say Jaquan Brisker will be the starting safety alongside DeShon Elliott. A few folks gave the edge to Jalen Ramsey. But a large majority see Brisker filling the role. John Stewart says, “Brisker -a bit redundant, but you can’t sign him & sit him!”
Q2: If Joey Porter Jr. gets extended, what will his annual average salary be?
Respondents’ consensus puts Joey Porter Jr.’s annualized salary at $27.5 million if he signs an extension. Hope we find out soon!
Q3: Kevin Colbert, J.T. Thomas and Craig Wolfley were added to the Hall of Honor. If you could add one more name to this year’s class, who would it be?
Respondents offered several worthy candidates for the Steelers’ Hall of Honor: Levon Kirkland, Gary Dunn, Roy Jefferson, Dave DeCastro, and Ike Taylor. Longtime broadcaster Bill Hillgrove was suggested. Two folks named James Harrison, but he was inducted in 2023. However, kicker Gary Anderson got the most votes. As Ted Webb said, “Gary Anderson (leading scorer for now until Boswell passes him soon).”
Q4: Who will start at RT come Week 1?
The question of the starting right tackle came down to either Dylan Cook or Max Iheanachor. Both had strong supporters, but this week Dylan Cook edged out the rookie. Rock3373 said, “Cook. Max gets to learn for now.”
Q5: How much should Aaron Rodgers play in the first preseason game, if at all?
Close vote on whether Aaron Rodgers should play at all in the first preseason game. Respondents settled with one long drive. Wes said, “One long, successful drive. (If said drive is not long and successful, then two drives, but that’s all.)”
