There was never a doubt in Patrick Mahomes’ mind that the Kansas City Chiefs would be back-to-back Super Bowl champions.

The now three-time champion quarterback texted his family ahead of Kansas City’s regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers saying, “I decided we are going to win the Super Bowl.”

He followed that up with, “I’ll see yall in Vegas I’m not done,” after the Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 28.

Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, shared the text messages from the star quarterback to her Instagram account on Tuesday:

Mahomes and the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday to become the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions since the New England Patriots in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

No NFL team has won three straight Super Bowls, and the Chiefs enter the 2024 campaign hoping to successfully defend their latest title. If any team could accomplish the three-peat, it would be Mahomes and Kansas City.

“It [would be] legendary,” he told reporters on Monday. “No one’s ever done it, and we knew it’s legendary to win back-to-back. I think eight other teams have done it. We had heard it all week. We had talked to the guys [who had gone back-to-back] about it, and we felt like we had the best opportunity that we had ever had to go out there and do that.

“We’ve got to continue to play our best football. We’ll celebrate these next few weeks, and then we’ll get right back at it.”
