Daniel Cormier won’t forgive Jon Jones for failed drug tests

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones shared quite possibly the most intense rivalry in mixed martial arts history, with the enemies even going as far as brawling during a media event in the lobby of the MGM Grand.

Over the course of two contests, ‘DC’ showcased his brilliance, pushing his arch nemesis to his limits.

However, it still wasn’t enough to claim a victory, with Jones winning the first match-up on points and the second via knockout following a thunderous head kick.

But while Cormier could’ve gotten over losing to the better man, Jones’ failed drug tests have left a permanent scar.

WOW: Khabib Nurmagomedov could lose his ‘Eagle’ nickname to Umar Nurmagomedov after UFC 311

In an interview with The Pivot Podcast, the Hall of Famer said: “He was like, ‘I know y’all not gonna believe me, but I have nothing against DC’. Why would he? He was the one that cheated. He was the one who was doing the wrong stuff, not me. So, it’s easy to say, ‘We passed that’.

“The dude is so talented; he could’ve won the fights anyway. The first time we fought, I’m 36-years-old, the dude was like 24.

“He beats me, gets suspended for the first date. Next time, steroids fail. Every time we fight, and you get suspended, that memory does not disappear.

“They found out he tested positive for steroids, they say, ‘He’s suspended for 18 months’. Still got your money, you’re still only 25-years-old, I’m 38-years-old.

“It’s easy for him to say, ‘Water under the bridge’, but for me, it’s like, ‘Man, you did some stuff to my career, that never let me settle, because now, I don’t know’.

“I can know through the fights, maybe this dude was just better than me. But I also know that if you’re not doing the things that are boosting you, can you really work to the level I’m working?”
