NFL experts pick 4 ideal trade fits for Colts' Anthony Richardson

NFL experts pick 4 ideal trade fits for Colts' Anthony Richardson

Several analysts over at NFL.com each selected ideal trade fits for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.

During NFL combine week, it was reported that the Colts and Richardson mutually agreed to seek trade opportunities. The NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe initially reported that the Minnesota Vikings were a team to watch.

Richardson’s agents then weighed in on the trade talks last week as well.

The point that the Colts and Richardson are now at has really felt inevitable since last summer, when Daniel Jones was named the starter during training camp. The already muddied path back to Richardson being the Colts’ long-term answer at quarterback then became even less clear after Jones’ play through the first half of the season.

Then, likely giving the Colts even more flexibility to move on from Richardson was Riley Leonard’s play in Week 18 against a very good Houston defense, showcasing that he can be a capable backup option for Indianapolis.

Richardson has navigated injuries and inconsistent play, but his talent is evident. Around the NFL in recent years, we’ve seen second-chance — and sometimes third and fourth-chance — quarterbacks thrive in new environments. There are going to be teams who want to see if they can unlock Richardson’s sky-high potential.

As far as what the Colts could get in return for Richardson, we covered that topic recently here, along with the salary cap ramifications of trading him.

But in terms of who might be interested in the former fourth overall pick, let’s turn to the experts.

Marc Ross: Rams

What Ross had to say: “He would learn behind reigning MVP Matthew Stafford in the Sean McVay offense. The hope would be for Richardson to emerge much like this offseason’s top quarterback in the free agency market, Malik Willis.”

Jeffri Chadiha: Jets

What Chadiha had to say: “There are weapons to work with — between wide receiver Garrett Wilson and the reports that the team is working to keep running back Breece Hall — and the offensive line has improved dramatically over the last two years.”

David Carr: Packers

What Carr had to say: “If Willis does sign with another team, Green Bay would be a great fit for Richardson, who would no doubt benefit learning from LaFleur and working behind Jordan Love.”

Maurice Jones-Drew: Rams or 49ers

What Jones-Drew had to say: “Learning under Shanahan or Sean McVay in Los Angeles could help Richardson turn his career around and potentially earn another chance to eventually start.”
